Schumer proposes reward to help rescue kidnapped Nigerian girls

Sen. Charles Schumer called on the federal government Sunday to set up a reward that would help bring home the 276 missing girls in Nigeria.

Schumer said the State Department could set up a fund that would encourage people to give reliable information on the whereabouts of the girls, who were kidnapped by the terrorist group Boko Haram nearly a month ago.

The senator sent a letter to Secretary of State John Kerry explaining his plan for the reward Sunday.

"It is also critical to make it loud and clear that anyone discovered buying or harming these girls will be put in our international terrorist database," he said in a statement.

The students were abducted April 14 from a secondary school in Chibok, a northeastern village of Nigeria. News of their kidnapping sparked outrage worldwide.
