San Francisco Giants outfielder Melky Cabrera could win the National League batting crown while on suspension for violating baseball's ban on performance-enhancing drugs. If his .346 mark holds up for the title, it appears that Major League Baseball will not take action.

"We'll see how it plays out," commissioner Bud Selig said Wednesday. "We generally don't interfere in that process as you know. But we'll take a look at it at the end of the year."

Baseball slapped Cabrera with a 50-game suspension on Aug. 15 following a positive test for testosterone.

Speaking generally about the game's issues with performance-enhancing drugs, the commissioner cautioned against altering Steroids Era records during a taping of "CenterStage" for the YES Network.

Said Selig: "You can't change records, because once you get into that, it just would never stop and I think would create more problems than they would solve, by far."
