South Nassau Communities Hospital in Oceanside is hosting a free community forum Wednesday for teens and parents to discuss and prevent distracted driving.

The seminar, titled “One Text or Call Could Wreck it All,” is the hospital’s first community lecture series devoted to the life-threatening, public health problem of distracted driving, organizers said. The event will run from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the hospital, 1 Healthy Way, in its conference areas A, B, and C.

Topics to be covered are the scope of the problem, statistics, state legislation, the point of view from law enforcement and emergency services and trauma associated with distracted driving. There will be a questions and answers portion at the end, organizers said.

Guest speakers will include the hospital’s emergency room physician Dr. Joshua Kugler , Nassau County traffic safety coordinator Christopher M. Mistron, Barbara Ward of AAA New York and EMS and police officials, organizers said.

The program agenda was developed by the hospital’s Community Education Department, which is focused on providing information, education, services and programs to safeguard and enhance the health and wellness of residents, organizers said.

For more information or to register, call the hospital’s community education department at 516-377-5333.
