Senator: $1M to fix road drainage issues in East Massapequa

About $1 million in state funding has been set aside to repair roads and improve drainage in a flood-prone area of East Massapequa along South Oyster Bay, state Sen. Charles Fuschillo (R-Merrick) announced Thursday.

The funds will be used to improve portions of Leewater, Ripplewater and Nearwater avenues and all of Curlew Place, officials said.

The road pavement there is deteriorated, and stormwater runoff and tide patterns cause frequent flooding, according to Oyster Bay Town.

Fuschillo, who secured the funding, in a statement said the work will “improve the quality of life for residents.”

Town Supervisor John Venditto in a statement said that upon completion of the project “this area will have roadways that are less susceptible to flooding, will have a more efficient stormwater drainage system, and a road that is up-to-date in form and function.”

The funds and the project are not directly related to superstorm Sandy, a Fuschillo spokesman said.
