After winning Suffolk League I last season, a strong group of field athletes has Sachem East poised to repeat.

The team boasts three of the top shot put athletes in Suffolk County. Senior Diamond Jackson will lead the group, already registering a 38 foot, 11 inch toss at last weekend’s Bishop Loughlin Games – the top distance in Suffolk so far.

Jackson, who played basketball last winter, is New York State’s fourth ranked shot-putter, according to coach Peter McNeill.

Seniors Gabrielle Trejo and Brittany Sepe complete the strong triple threat. The two finished fifth and sixth, respectively at the Bishop Loughlin Games. Trejo threw 34 feet, 11 inches and Sepe threw 34 feet, seven inches.

Pole vaulters Stephanie Curtin and Amanda Zaput should also score points in the field. Zaput, a senior, jumped eight feet, six inches at the Bishop Loughlin games.
