Sept. 11 memorial proposed in Coram
A Rocky Point High School history teacher wants to place a memorial to victims of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks at a Coram athletic complex.
The Brookhaven Town Board is scheduled to vote on the proposal by teacher Richard Acritelli at its meeting Tuesday. The memorial would be located at the Diamond In The Pines complex off of Route 112.
A sketch of the proposed memorial shows three stones, marked 9/11 Victims,
“It’ll be good because it’s a very active park. It gets thousands of visitors,” said town Parks Commissioner Ed Morris.
The town board must approve the project because it would be located on town land. Kelly Brothers Landscaping has volunteered to donate labor and materials, Morris said.
