The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm watch for Nassau and Suffolk counties in effect through 9 p.m.

The weather service has called for scattered thunderstorms before 11p.m. and then a chance of showers between 11 p.m. and 2 a.m.

The weather service cautioned Suffolk residents in Manorville, Center Moriches, Westhampton, Riverhead, Shinnecock Hills and Southampton to take precautions.

This rain could cause ponding of water on roadways and minor flooding in poor drainage areas.
