Shira Shamir, a senior at George W. Hewlett High School, is an intelligent, enthusiastic and truly outstanding student of the Theater. She is completing the school’s award-winning five-course Regents Theater sequence in which she has written, acted and directed for the stage. She has impressively performed scenes from Shakespeare to Stoppard and her own original scenes. She always pursues challenging theater opportunities and devotes time to the Theater Company by performing leading roles in the school’s productions.
Shira is also a Commended National Merit Scholar, a winner of the Frederick Douglass and Susan B. Anthony Awards and an active member of the National Honor Society and Foreign Language Honor Society. She is Captain of the Varsity Tennis Team and on the Executive Board for Thespian Honor Society.
According to her teacher, “Shira beholds many rare gifts, which include her deep artistic and academic spirit, making her so deserving of this prestigious honor.”
