Shoreham-Wading River School Voters Guide 2010
VOTING
7 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Shoreham-Wading River High School auxiliary gym.
THE BUDGET
The district is proposing a budget of $57,967,477 for the 2010-11 school year, an increase of 3.68 percent over the current $55,909,385. The tax levy would rise to $47,318,444, a 7.02 percent increase over the current $44,216,486.
The average homeowner with a house assessed at $3,080 would pay $6,094 in school taxes, a 7 percent increase from the current figure of $5,695.
The proposed budget includes a step increase of 2.5 percent for the average teacher. The teachers' contract is being negotiated.
The proposal also includes a reduction of six teaching positions and two librarian jobs, as well cuts in library services, field trips and co-curricular activities.

THE CANDIDATES
Marie Lindell and Richard Pluschau are running unopposed for two vacant seats with three-year terms. Scott Ericson and Lisa Wild are not seeking re-election.
