Residents of the Shoreham-Wading River community let their thoughts be known about everything from politics to traffic in a survey released Friday.

The unscientific poll, conducted by area website SWRweekly.com, opened last October. The poll found that:

* Only 2.8 percent of respondents said that they moved to the area within the last five years, compared with 46.5 percent who have lived there more than 10 years.

* Although overcrowding has been a concern in the area for years, only 23 percent of respondents said they had attended any of the Route 25A corridor study forums.

The survey also allowed respondents to submit their ideas for how to best improve traffic on Route 25A. Multiple respondents mentioned the intersection of 25A and Wading River Manor Road, home to several high-traffic businesses, including McDonald’s and King Kullen, as a spot that needs work.

One respondent referred to the area as “just a tragedy waiting to happen," while another called it “a nightmare of congestion and a virtual free-for all.”
