ShotSpotter leads cops to wounded man
ShotSpotter technology led Nassau police Friday afternoon to Uniondale, where they found a man shot in the leg, police said.
The system captured the sounds of gunfire near Jerusalem Avenue and Paff Avenue shortly before 2:30 p.m., police said. Officers found a 21-year-old man with a gun wound to his left calf, police said.
He was taken to a nearby hospital to be treated for non-life-threatening wounds, police said.
A late model, dark red SUV with large tires, either a Chevrolet or GMC model, was seen fleeing the area immediately after the shooting, police said.
Detectives ask anyone with information to call the Nassau County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS.
The ShotSpotter system was launched in 2009 to help police monitor shootings and respond more quickly.
