For instance, some of Long Island’s 16,600 federal employees have been furloughed, and local national parks including Sagamore Hill have been shut down. And classes and sports games for the hundreds of cadets who attend the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point have been indefinitely postponed.
