Six villages approve police services pact

A contract for Old Brookville police protection services lasting into 2017 has been signed by all six villages covered by the department.

Matinecock and Cove Neck officials last week in separate meetings approved the six-village agreement, attorney Peter MacKinnon said Wednesday. MacKinnon’s law firm represents both villages.

The contract to share police costs, attend monthly police commissioner meetings and otherwise cooperate has also been approved by Old Brookville, Brookville, Upper Brookville and Mill Neck.

Matinecock approved the contract on Feb. 23 by a 6-0 vote, with one trustee absent, and Cove Neck did so at a Feb. 22 special meeting with a unanimous 5-0 vote, said MacKinnon, of the Locust Valley-based Humes & Wagner LLP.

The coalition on June 1 will mark the start of its first extended contract since Muttontown left last year, taking with it more than 25 percent of the funding.
