Slayton seems to be pretty far down the list on depth chart
Darius Slayton is certain to make the roster as the Giants' longest-tenured player. But his play Friday spoke loudly on where he stands in the receiving rotation.
Slayton played the entire first half on a night when most of the Giants' veterans were held out or played few snaps. He wasn't targeted while Odell Beckham Jr. was targeted six times.
Usually vets don't play long in the third preseason game unless there's something to prove. It hints that Slayton is behind Darnell Mooney, rookie Malachi Fields and Malik Nabers.
That showed up in practice this week with Fields getting a lot of first-team reps.
It'll be something to watch when the season starts. Slayton, who signed a three-year deal last year, has been a reliable player despite struggling last season. Yet, he appears to be losing ground with a new coaching staff.
