Matt Garza (3-0) pitched shutout ball for eight innings and Carlos Peña and B.J. Upton each hit two-run homers for visiting Tampa Bay Sunday. The Rays have won six straight on the road.

Jon Lester (0-2) gave up seven runs in six innings for host Boston, losers of four straight. "I just have to be better," Lester said. "It's unacceptable. I'm letting my rotation down. I'm letting our bullpen down and I'm letting the team down."

"We're not doing a lot of things well right now," Boston manager Terry Francona said.

Royals 10, Twins 5

Alberto Callaspo had two home runs and six RBIs for the Royals in Minnesota. Josh Rupe struck out Jim Thome with the bases loaded and two outs in the seventh to preserve a two-run lead for Kansas City. Loser Carl Pavano (2-1) gave up seven runs and 11 hits in 31/3 innings.

Indians 7, White Sox 4

Shin-Soo Choo hit a grand slam and drove in five runs, leading host Cleveland to its first three-game home sweep of the White Sox since 2003.

Orioles 8, Athletics 3

Ty Wigginton homered and drove in four runs to help visiting Baltimore snap a nine-game skid and beat Brett Anderson (1-1). He gave up five runs in five innings two days after the A's gave the pitcher a four-year, $12.5-million contract. Brian Matusz struck out eight in six-plus innings to improve to 2-0 for the 2-11 Orioles.

Angels 3, Blue Jays 1

Ervin Santana came within one strike of a shutout as visiting Los Angeles completed a three-game sweep. Hideki Matsui had a pair of doubles and an RBI for the Angels, and Santana (1-2) set down 17 in a row before Adam Lind homered on a 3-and-2 pitch with two outs in the ninth.

Tigers 4, Mariners 2

Righthander Max Scherzer gave up two runs in six innings and Miguel Cabrera hit a three-run homer as Detroit avoided a three-game sweep in Seattle. - AP
