Urban planning advocacy group Vision Long Island will hold its tenth annual Smart Growth Awards in Woodbury on June 17.

The event will highlight Long Islanders’ efforts to promote mixed-use development and environmentally friendly design, said Eric Alexander, executive director of Vision Long Island.

The Northport-based organization is a nonprofit group that lobbies governments and builders to promote “economically sustainable and environmentally responsible growth” through redevelopment and open space preservation, according to its website.

The awards will celebrate “the people projects and policies advancing smart growth throughout Long Island,” he said.

Honorees include State Sen. Carl Marcellino (R-Syosset), Patchogue Mayor Paul Pontieri, Babylon Supervisor Steve Bellone and Citizens Campaign for the Environment Executive Director Adrienne Esposito, Alexander said.

The event will take place from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Crest Hollow Country Club at 8325 Jericho Turnpike in Woodbury.

Registration forms and more information are available at Vision Long Island's website or 631-261-0242.
