Smithtown Christian falls in state baseball semifinal
BINGHAMTON, N.Y. — Smithtown Christian’s hopes of winning a third straight state baseball championship withered away in the fifth inning Saturday at SUNY Broome Community College.
After building a 2-0 lead, the two-time defending champs allowed eight runs in the fifth and fell to West Canada Valley, 11-6.
The Knights (11-10) entered the bottom of the seventh trailing 11-3 and rallied for three runs. The game ended on a fielder’s choice with the bases loaded.
