The Smithtown Youth Bureau is starting a weekly parenting workshop and hosting a forum for high school students Tuesday in Kings Park.

The workshop, “Systematic Training for Effective Parenting of Children Under Six,” will address topics such as building self-esteem, communicating with young children, discipline and teaching kids to cooperate.

It will be held from 9:45 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. each Tuesday in May at the Mary DeRose Parent Resource Center, 180 Lawrence Rd., Kings Park.

The workshop is free and sponsored by the Kings Park Parent Organization Council. To register, send an email to KINGSPARKCOS@gmail.com or call 631-663-3193.

The youth bureau and the town’s Youth Advisory Board will hold their third “Life After High School” forum at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Kings Park High School, 200 Route 25A.

Geared toward high school sophomores, juniors and seniors, a panel will discuss subjects such as health, academics, social relationships and finances. The program is designed for students planning to attend college or technical school and those joining the workforce.

For information, call the youth bureau at 631-360-7595 or email executive director Patsy Hirschhorn, phirschhorn@tosgov.com.
