Commuters coped with a constant coating of snow on major thoroughfares and side streets Friday evening.
A trip from Hicksville to Shirley took nearly two hours Friday evening. Snow blanketed at least two of the island’s critical arteries, the Long Island Expressway and the Northern State Parkway, on which traffic went between 20 mph and 30 mph. Despite the efforts of highway crews, more than an inch of snow clung to residential roadways in Suffolk County.
A spokesperson for the New York State Police could not immediately provide responses to Newsday’s inquiries regarding state road conditions Friday evening.
