Snow drifts an impediment to snow removal in Southampton Town

Blowing snow drifts from farm fields and golf courses have made it harder for snow removal on Southampton Town roads, highway superintendent Charlie McArdle said Tuesday. Drifts were an issue during the storm, causing some plows to get stuck, McArdle said.

The first extended glimpse of sunshine Tuesday only helped matters.

"We're getting a break today," he told Newsday, "and hopefully some of the snow will melt and the guys will clean up the shoulders, and we'll get to every road that we didn't get to."

 McArdle's advice to residents in town still waiting for the return of snowless roads? Be patient.

"We’ll get to them as soon as we can," he said.
