PSEG's Long Island personnel are ready to respond throughout the storm to any possible outages, the utility said in a statement.

“We continue to monitor the weather and have performed system and logistic checks to ensure any customers who may be affected will have their power restored safely and as quickly as possible,” Michael Sullivan, PSEG Long Island's vice president of electric operations, said.

Customers should stay far away from any downed wires as they should always be considered “live" and should report any downed wires and outages to PSEG Long Island’s 24-hour Electric Service number at 800-490-0075. They can also contact 911 for reports of downed wires. Residents should also avoid standing water since it conducts electric current.

PSEG also advised people to never use a generator or any gasoline-powered engine inside homes, basements or garages or less than 20 feet from any window, door or vent, and to use extension cords longer than 20 feet to keep generators at a safe distance. Customers can also visit PSEG’s website at mypowermap.psegliny.com/ to view and stay updated on outages.
