Flight delays, cancellations reported
Airports in the tri-state area are reporting flight delays and cancellations ahead of the impending snowstorm.
Departing flights from LaGuardia Airport were delayed an average of 60 minutes and those lags were expected to increase, the Federal Aviation Administration reported around noon Friday.
Some scheduled arrivals have also been cancelled, among them flights from Chicago and Atlanta. Arriving flights from Cleveland, Columbus, Charlotte, Wilmington, St. Louis and a host of other cities are listed as delayed.
At Kennedy Airport, the number of delayed and cancelled flights was in the dozens. Passengers were being advised to contact their airlines regarding flight status, especially as flight times move closer to the predicted onset of the snowstorm. Accumulation is forecast to begin between 6 and 8 p.m., according to the National Weather Service.
No overall delays were reported for MacArthur Airport in Islip.
