Suffolk County Executive Ed Romaine, center, briefs on the upcoming storm Friday.

Suffolk County Executive Ed Romaine said that the county is prepared to deal with this weekend's expected snowfall and urged residents to stay off the roads.

“We’re ready for the storm. We’re prepared,” Romaine said during a Friday afternoon press conference outside of the county’s Department of Public Works headquarters. “We have our salt, our sanding trucks, we have our plows out and we are ready to address the storm."

Romaine also asked residents to avoid parking their cars on streets, if possible, saying it “makes it difficult for the towns and villages, and certainly for the county, if your car is on the road.”

The county executive said the snow is expected to be less heavy than the snowfall earlier in December. He said snow drifts should likely not be an issue because heavy wind conditions are not anticipated.

Suffolk Police Commissioner Kevin Catalina said additional police and first responders will be deployed overnight.
