The U.S. Postal Service is experiencing disruptions across Long Island on Tuesday.

"We resumed service today," spokesperson Amy N. Gibbs said on Tuesday, "but in reality it is going by route and by address — and it really is depending on safety conditions."

That's after the blizzard forced the USPS to cancel deliveries, collections and retail operations on Monday.

Gibbs said that postal carriers are having to contend with everything from snowed-in mailboxes to icy porches.

Residents need to clear an area around their mailboxes so carriers can gain safe access, she said.

"They will make every attempt to deliver," Gibbs said. "But, the underlying issue is safety."
