Seven stores were closed Wednesday morning at the Smith Haven Mall in Lake Grove, after a major water leak at the 140-store shopping complex due to last weekend's snowstorm, a mall spokesman said.

The mall's doors opened for business at its scheduled 10 a.m. start time, with the following stores shuttered: Cinnabon, Brighton Collectibles, NY&CO, Oakley, Clarks, GNC and Finish Line.

The leak on Monday was reported about 3:30 p.m., and police and fire departments responded and evacuated the mall. There were no injuries. It was closed about 4 p.m. Monday as a safety precaution.

On Tuesday, Macy's, Macy's Furniture Gallery and Sears reopened about 11:30 a.m., and most of the remaining stores opened at 12:45 p.m. that day.

The mall entrance by Sears remains closed until further notice, the spokesman said Wednesday.

The Smithtown Building Department and Lake Grove Fire Marshal spearheaded an inspection of the mall as the mall's management had a structural engineer examine the damage to the roof, said Andy Brofman, Lake Grove Fire Marshal.

Brofman said each store in the mall was inspected for roof leaks and possible damage to fire equipment before it was allowed to open.

Mall workers also lightened the load on the roof by removing snow from it, Brofman said.

The mall's regular weekday hours are 10 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.
