The South Floral Park Village board voted unanimously last week to exceed the 2 percent tax levy cap if necessary.

The village will hold a public hearing on its proposed budget April 18 at 8 p.m. in Village Hall, 383 Roquette Ave. As of the board meeting Thursday night, the budget had not been completed.

The board also approved using a $25,000 grant from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s Community Development Block Grant program to help with the village’s residential rehabilitation program for fixed-income residents, Mayor Geoffrey N. Prime said.

The small individual grants would help residents conduct home improvements, such as repairing roofs, replacing windows and building handicap ramps. Residents can apply with the county and pay a $25 application fee, village officials said.

Village administrator, clerk and treasurer Sally Ponce was sworn in at the meeting for four more years. She has been with village for 29 years, Ponce said.
