SOUTHAMPTON

A special meeting of the Southampton Town board has been set for Monday at 11 a.m. so that Supervisor Anna Throne-Holst can present her tentative 2014 budget to the full board for review.

Her office said that all details about the size of the budget and any change in the tax rate would be given out at that time. The board adopted an $82.4 million budget for 2013.

The official filing of a tentative budget is the first step in a process that leads to eventual adoption of a town spending plan, and changes in the budget can be made by the full town board.

The board will also hold public hearings on minor changes in the Bridgehampton and Sagaponack Beach Erosion Control Districts, making it possible to eliminate the taxes on parcels that have conservation easements on them and have no potential for development.

Brookhaven officials are expected to introduce a tentative 2014 budget Tuesday that doesn’t increase taxes for residents. Town officials are keeping a tight lid on details and further information wasn’t immediately available. Officials said they would release the spending plan on the town’s website Tuesday.

This year’s $247 million budget also froze taxes, but included about 140 layoffs and elimination of some town services. — DEON HAMPTON
