Southampton Town is asking Suffolk County to consider adding the Riverside/Flanders area to the county’s Industrial and Commercial Incentive Plan, which provides business property tax abatements in strategic areas.

The county had asked each town to identify areas within its borders that i wanted to include in the incentive plan. In 1997, Southampton identified Gabreski Airport and the Shinnecock Canal Waterfront District. At Tuesday’s town board meeting, the board agreed to add the Riverside/Flanders area.

Southampton Supervisor Anna Throne-Holst has said that the town is working to resurrect its 2006 Riverside Urban Renewal plan. She and other town officials, as well as county representatives, recently met with community members on the topic.
