Southern State Parkway reopens after PSEG Long Island makes repairs
The Southern State Parkway has reopened after it was closed in both directions at Exit 16 in Franklin Square while PSEG Long Island crews conducted emergency repair work on a utility pole.
A vehicle struck a transmission pole near Franklin Avenue overnight Friday, causing a static line to go down, PSEG Long Island spokeswoman Elizabeth Flagler said. The roadway was shut down at 2 p.m. and crews fixed the issue in about 10 minutes, Flagler said. About 150 costumers had been affected by an outage, Flagler said, but their power had been restored earlier in the day.
Motorists traveling in either direction were required to leave the roadway at exits before the closure and enter at another point, a Nassau County Police spokeswoman said.
