Police to hold anti-gang forum tonight in Southold
Southold Town police will meet with residents Thursday to address concerns over alleged gang activity on the North Fork.
The community forum follows a mid-October shooting and machete attack that wounded two men and led to five arrests in Southold.
Police said the attack was linked to a dispute between the MS-13 and Mara-18 street gangs.
The Brooklyn-based Guardian Angels group began organizing nighttime safety patrols on the streets of Greenport after the incident.
At the forum, government, police and school officials "will present timely information on gang activities, current trends and the development of school-based strategies to address gang problems," according to an announcement on the town's website.
It is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. at the Southold Town Recreation Center on Peconic Lane in Peconic.
