Southold School Voters Guide 2010

3 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Southold Junior / Senior High School gymnasium.
THE BUDGET
The district is proposing a budget of $25,676,931 for the 2010-11 school year, a 2.24 percent increase over the current budget of $25,114,819. The local tax levy would rise from $22,371,205 to $22,647,602 - an increase of 1.22 percent.
The average single-family house assessed at $6,400 would pay school taxes of $4,701, an increase of 1.51 percent over the current figure of $4,631.
The budget also includes a 4 percent contract salary increase for teachers, with a step increase of 2.5 percent. Four teaching positions, equivalent to 1.36 full-time positions, are being eliminated.
In addition to the budget, there are two other propositions on the ballot.
The first would establish a facilities capital reserve fund to which the district would contribute an estimated $850,000 each year for 10 years.
The second is a proposal to spend $765,052 in tax money to support the Southold Free Library.
