Specialists offer help in foreclosure fight
State foreclosure prevention specialists will visit the Copiague Memorial Public Library on Aug. 10 to meet with struggling homeowners.
In a news release, state Sen. Owen H. Johnson (R-West Babylon) said, “Families are struggling to stay in their homes in this difficult economy and need to know there are services available to help them.
“Homeowners can speak one-on-one with trained professionals to learn about services to help them stay in their homes.”
The visit is one of dozens the state’s Department of Financial Services has made since January to sites with high foreclosure rates.
Specialists can help with mortgage modification applications, communications with mortgage lenders or servicers and handle complaints from homeowners who believe they have been victimized by mortgage lending abuses.
Homeowners unable to attend can call the department’s toll-free foreclosure hotline at 800-269-0990, or 518-457-1654, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.
Homeowners may also file complaints using the department’s website, www.dfs.ny.gov.
