Cousins banned a game

Sacramento Kings star forward DeMarcus Cousins was suspended for last night's game against Miami for hitting Atlanta's Al Horford in the head with a forearm. The NBA announced the penalty a day after Cousins and Horford tangled late in the first quarter at Atlanta on Wednesday.

Dwyane Wade scored 24 points and Chris Bosh added 23 in the host Heat's 116-109 win over the Kings.

GOLFMcIlroy in contention

Rory McIlroy birdied his last hole to keep pace with Danny Willett in their Race to Dubai points fight in the European Tour's season-ending DP World Tour Championship. McIlroy chipped in from a greenside bunker on the 18th for a 4-under 68, leaving him tied with Willett and two shots behind the four leaders at Dubai's Jumeirah Golf Estates . . . Davis Love III and son Davis Love IV played together in the opening round of the RSM Classic at St. Simons Island, Georgia. Both wound up with an even-par 70 on the Seaside Course. And both have a lot of work to make up ground on Kevin Kisner. Kisner shot a 7-under 65 on the Plantation Course, giving him a one-shot lead based on par after the first round. Jeff Overton, David Hearn and Tom Hoge each had a 6-under 64 . . . Austin Ernst (66) has a one-shot lead after the opening round of the CME Group Tour Championship in Naples, Florida, and South Korean rookie Sei Young Kim has the upper hand in the race for a $1- million bonus. Lydia Ko, Inbee Park and Stacy Lewis also could win that bonus; Ko shot 69, Park a 71 and Lewis a 72.

Ovechkin sets record

Alex Ovechkin scored his 484th NHL goal, breaking Sergei Fedorov's record for most by a Russian-born player, but the Dallas Stars bounced back to beat the host Washington Capitals, 3-2. Ovechkin's goal came at 7:01 of the third period, knotting the score at 2. A video montage followed, concluding with Fedorov offering congratulations. -- AP
