Leftwich might miss first month
Ben Roethlisberger isn't the only Steelers quarterback who might be out for four weeks.
Byron Leftwich's strained left knee ligament could sideline him for most or all of the first month of the season, leaving the Steelers with only two healthy quarterbacks - Dennis Dixon and Charlie Batch - for their Sept. 12 opener against Atlanta.
In other news, Broncos tailback LenDale White is out for the season after rupturing his Achilles' tendon, a person familiar with the injury told The Associated Press . . . The Cowboys traded receiver Patrick Crayton to San Diego . . . Lions rookie defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh was fined $7,500 by the NFL for his roughing-the-passer penalty on Jake Delhomme in a preseason game against the Browns.
There are no more original Houston Texans. Kicker Kris Brown, the only player left from the inaugural 2002 season, was cut. Brown was beaten out by former Cardinal Neil Rackers, a free agent signed by Houston in the offseason.

Johnson, Day tied for lead
Zach Johnson and Jason Day shot 8-under 63s to share the first-round lead at the Deutsche Bank Championship in Norton, Mass. Tiger Woods had two bogeys in four holes when the first patch of rain arrived from Hurricane Earl, and it didn't get much better. He had two more bogeys and was in last place until he fought back for a 72, leaving him three shots below the projected cut.
Fast start for Calcavecchia
Mark Calcavecchia shot an 8-under 64 at Del Monte to take a three-stroke lead in the Champions Tour's First Tee Open in Pebble Beach, Calif. Calcavecchia, in his first season on the 50-and-over tour after winning 13 times on the PGA Tour, capped his bogey-free round with a birdie on the par-5 ninth hole. - AP
