Kentucky's Tubman charged with rape

Kentucky freshman defensive end Lloyd Tubman was arrested and charged with first-degree rape yesterday, and the school says he has been suspended indefinitely.

The Lexington-Fayette County jail's website said Tubman was being held on a first-degree rape charge.

The university said in a release that the 6-5, 225-pound Tubman, 19, from Louisville, was arrested by campus police following an incident last week at a residence hall on campus.

Yanks No. 1 brand

Forbes says the Yankees have the most valuable team brand in all of sports at $521 million, which the magazine says is about one-fifth of the team's enterprise value.

Forbes also estimates that LeBron James has replaced Tiger Woods as the athlete with the top brand value, at $37 million. Woods had been the top athlete on Forbes' Fab 40 list each year since 2007.

Nike is estimated to be the most valuable sports business brand, at $19 billion. Forbes said the value of the name increases Nike's value from $52 billion to $71 billion.

Forbes estimates the Super Bowl has the top event brand value at $500 million.

F-1 driver still critical

but stable

Formula One driver Jules Bianchi remains in critical but stable condition, the Frenchman's family said as FIA launched an investigation into his accident at the Japanese Grand Prix in Tokyo.

Bianchi, 25, had emergency surgery for a severe head injury Sunday after his car hit a crane that was sent to recover another vehicle.

Donovan closes out as U.S. captain

Landon Donovan, 32, will captain Team USA on Friday in his national team finale. Coach Jurgen Klinsmann said the Los Angeles Galaxy forward will start and play about 30 minutes against Ecuador in an exhibition in East Hartford, Connecticut.

Donovan, who is retiring at the end of the MLS season, is the American leader with 57 goals and 58 assists. It will be the 157th international appearance for Donovan, a veteran of three World Cups who was controversially dropped by Klinsmann for this year's tournament in Brazil.-- AP

ESPN taps Robinson

ESPN announced the hiring of former Oregon State coach Craig Robinson as a college basketball analyst. Robinson, older brother of first lady Michelle Obama, will call games on ESPNU and work in the studio. He will debut with the Iona at Wofford game at 7 a.m. Nov. 18 on ESPN2. "The chance to remain close to the sport I love, expand my horizons and be a part of ESPN and The Walt Disney Company is a tremendous opportunity," Robinson said in a news release.
