NHLEnforcer Probert's brain
found to be diseased
Bob Probert, an NHL enforcer for 16 seasons who died last July of heart failure at age 45, was concerned about the pounding he had taken over the years and wanted his brain to be analyzed once he died. Researchers at Boston University said Thursday that Probert had the degenerative brain disease Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy. He is the second hockey player from the program at the Center for the Study of Traumatic Encephalopathy to be diagnosed with the disease after death. Reggie Fleming, a 1960s enforcer who played before helmets became mandatory, also had CTE.
Magic shocks Heat
Down by 24 in the third quarter, the visiting Magic went on a 40-9 run in the next 15 minutes and shocked the Heat, 99-96. Jason Richardson had 24 points and Dwight Howard added 14 points and 18 rebounds for the Magic, which fell behind 73-49 on LeBron James' dunk with 8:57 left in the third quarter. James had 29 and Dwyane Wade 28 for Miami.NFL
Shockey to Panthers
The Panthers found a potential boost for the NFL's worst offense by signing four-time Pro Bowl tight end Jeremy Shockey to a one-year deal. Former Giant Shockey, 30, was released by the Saints last week . . . ESPN.com reported that former Colts safety Bob Sanders plans to sign a one-year deal with the Chargers. Sanders also visited the Jets, Jaguars and Bills, according to sources.

Harris has 25 in Vols' win
Freshman Tobias Harris of Dix Hills had a career-high 25 points and Scotty Hopson scored 24 as Tennessee beat South Carolina, 73-69.
GOLF
Spencer Levin is in the lead after the first day at the windy Honda Classic at PGA National in West Palm Beach. Levin handled the blustery conditions best, shooting a 3-under 67 for a 1-shot lead over five others. The round was suspended because of darkness with a handful of players on the course.
HORSE RACINGTrainer Dutrow summonedNew York racing authorities have ordered Kentucky Derby-winning trainer Rick Dutrow Jr. to show why he should not be suspended, lose his license and be kicked off state tracks for infractions. The New York State Racing and Wagering Board suspended Dutrow twice last month. The suspensions totaled 90 days for hypodermic needles in his barn and for a winning horse's positive test for a banned painkiller at Aqueduct. A hearing is scheduled for March 30-31.- AP
