Mavs, Odom split

The Dallas Mavericks put Lamar Odom, the 2011 Sixth Man of the Year, on the inactive list Monday in what both parties say was a mutual decision to part ways. Odom, married to reality TV co-star Khloe Kardashian, was averaging 6.6 points, 4.2 rebounds and 20.5 minutes, all career lows.

Odom was traded from the Lakers to Dallas in a deal just before the lockout-shortened season. A previous deal to New Orleans for Chris Paul was nixed by the league.

During the lockout last summer, Odom's 24-year-old cousin was murdered. Days after that, Odom was a passenger in a car that collided with a motorcycle and a teen pedestrian was killed.

Baylor under investigation

Baylor said it has been involved in a three-year investigation with the NCAA into what are believed to be hundreds of impermissible phone calls and text messages sent by coaches to young prospects. The school did not reveal which sports were involved, but the announcement came a few hours after ESPN.com reported that coaches for both the men's and women's basketball programs had made more than 1,200 calls and text messages to prospects in a 29-month span dating to 2008.

ESPN.com cited an NCAA report it had obtained. NCAA spokeswoman Stacey Osburn said the NCAA had not released the report and would not comment.

According to ESPN.com, the recruiting of Brittney Griner is part of the investigation.
