Pirates designate Ike for assignment
The Pittsburgh Pirates designated first baseman Ike Davis for assignment yesterday and have added pitcher Jameson Taillon to the 40-man roster. Davis hit .235 with 10 homers and 46 RBIs in 131 games with the Pirates after being acquired in an April trade from the Mets. Pittsburgh has 10 days to trade Davis or release him.

Kings' Voynov charged
Kings defenseman Slava Voynov was charged with felony domestic violence by the Los Angeles County district attorney's office. Voynov faces one felony count of corporal injury to a spouse with great bodily injury. In a statement providing the first public details of the incident, the district attorney's office said Voynov "caused his wife to suffer injuries to her eyebrow, cheek and neck" during an argument at their home, several hours after the Kings won an afternoon game.
Ovechkin gives Caps late lift
Alex Ovechkin scored with 5:56 left in the third period to give visiting Washington a 3-2 win over Colorado . . . Jason Zucker scored with 45.4 seconds left to lift visiting Minnesota to a 3-2 victory over Philadelphia.

Kansas St. slips past West Virginia
Jake Waters threw for a career-high 400 yards and a touchdown and visiting No. 12 Kansas State held on to beat sloppy West Virginia, 26-20 . . . Marquise Williams threw for two touchdowns and rushed for two more, and visiting North Carolina beat No. 25 Duke, 45-20.
