Lawyer: 25 cases could be settled this week
A lawyer brought in by Penn State to help resolve civil claims with former assistant football coach Jerry Sandusky's sexual abuse victims said yesterday he expects 25 of 31 to be settled by the end of the week.
Attorney Michael Rozen declined to say how much the 25 cases are settling for, or provide a range of the settlements. A 25-year-old man from suburban Philadelphia, a trial witness referred to as "Victim 5," became the first to complete a deal Friday.
NASCAR
Stewart out rest of season
Three-time NASCAR Sprint Cup/Winston Cup champion Tony Stewart will miss the rest of the season because of a broken right leg he suffered Aug. 5 at Southern Iowa Speedway. He will be replaced in the Stewart-Haas No. 14 Chevrolet by Austin Dillon and Mark Martin.

Federer seeded No. 7
Roger Federer is seeded No. 7 for the U.S. Open, his first slot outside the top three at any Grand Slam tournament since he was 13th at Flushing Meadows in 2002. Federer is also ranked No. 7 in the world. The No. 1 seed is Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal is No. 2. The women's seeds will be announced Tuesday.

Ex-Marine has full eligibility
The NCAA has reversed itself and ruled that Middle Tennessee defensive end Steven Rhodes, who spent five years in the Marines, will be allowed to compete this fall and that he will have four years of eligibility remaining.-- AP
