Former champion Camacho

seriously hurt in shooting

Former three-division champion Hector "Macho" Camacho, 50, was wounded seriously last night in a shooting in Bayamon, Puerto Rico. Doctors said he was expected to survive but was at risk of paralysis.

At least one gunman opened fire on Camacho and another man as they sat in a car. The other man, whose connection to Camacho wasn't immediately known, was killed, police said.

Camacho was rushed to Centro Medico, the trauma center in San Juan, where he was in critical but stable condition, Dr. Ernesto Torres, the hospital director, said. The bullet apparently struck Camacho's jaw but exited his head and lodged in his right shoulder and fractured two vertebrae, Torres said.NHL

Talks to resume today

After the NHLPA took a day to prepare responses to the NHL's request for its positions on economic issues, the sides will resume negotiations in Manhattan this morning. Unable to reach a new collective bargaining agreement, the league has canceled 327 games through Nov. 30 since the lockout began. Without tangible progress, a slate of December games also could be wiped out.

Hofstra hoops radio deal

Hofstra announced a radio partnership with WLIB (1190 AM) to carry the school's road men's basketball games. The schedule begins with tonight's game against Manhattan. The station has a 30,000-watt signal that covers most of the metropolitan area at night.
