TENNISTsonga ousts an exhausted Nadal
Jo-Wilfried Tsonga defeated an exhausted Rafael Nadal, 6-7 (3), 6-4, 6-1, Friday in the quarterfinals at Queen's Club in London. Andy Roddick beat Fernando Verdasco, 6-2, 6-2, and Andy Murray received a walkover into the semifinals when Marin Cilic withdrew with an ankle injury. Defending champion Sam Querrey was upset by 217th-ranked James Ward of Britain, 3-6, 6-3, 6-4. Nadal, who made several uncharacteristic errors in the match, will rest before he begins the defense of his Wimbledon title. The 25-year-old Spaniard won his sixth French Open title Sunday and said that an early loss at Queen's may help his preparations for Wimbledon.
GOLFKarlsson has 3-shot lead in Memphis
Robert Karlsson shot 5-under-par 65 to take a three-stroke lead after the second round of the St. Jude Classic in Memphis. Keegan Bradley (67) and Colt Knost (68) were tied for second. Bradley, the Byron Nelson Championship winner two weeks ago and a former St. John's player, is among a few who can earn a spot for next week's U.S. Open at Congressional by winning his second tour event since the last Open.
Tway's 63 takes lead in Champions event
Bob Tway birdied the 18th hole for a 9-under 63 and one-shot lead over Mike Goodes, Tommy Armour III, Joe Ozaki and Mark Wiebe after the first round of the Champions Tour's Greater Hickory Classic in Conover, N.C. Goodes shot 28 on the front nine.
Kim leads State Farm Classic
Mindy Kim maintained her two-stroke lead in the LPGA State Farm Classic in Springfield, Ill., following her opening 64 with a 5-under 67. Yani Tseng (66) and Shanshan Feng (65) were tied for second.

Stewart resigns as West Virginia coach
Bill Stewart has resigned as West Virginia's football coach and Dana Holgorsen will take over a year early after the two made unwanted headlines for weeks. Holgorsen, who was hired as offensive coordinator and eventual successor in December. An intoxicated Holgorsen was escorted out of a casino last month.
SWIMMINGEvans, 39, returning to competition
In an exclusive interview with The Associated Press, 39-year-old swimmer Janet Evans says she's been training hard for the past six months with an eye on qualifying for next year's U.S. Olympic trials. This weekend, Evans will swim in her first meet since the Atlanta Games, a Masters event that bears her name in her hometown of Fullerton, Calif. -- AP
