Snedeker, Atwal share lead
Brandt Snedeker shot a 65 Friday and shared the lead with Arjun Atwal at 12-under-par 128 after two rounds of the Wyndham Championship in Greensboro, N.C. Snedeker had an eagle and three birdies in the final pre-playoff event. Mystics edge Liberty
The Liberty couldn't get it done in Washington - but then got the help it needed from two of its former players in San Antonio.
Lindsey Harding hit a go-ahead layup with 8.8 seconds left as the host Mystics beat the Liberty, 75-74. That tied the teams at 21-12.
Then former Liberty players Becky Hammon and Edwige Lawson-Wade totaled 19 fourth-quarter points as the San Antonio Silver Stars beat the Indiana Fever, 75-61, dropping Indiana into a three-way tie for first place with the Liberty and Mystics with one game to play.
On Sunday, the Liberty hosts Connecticut, Washington plays at Atlanta and Indiana hosts Minnesota.
The loss snapped the Liberty's winning streak at 10 games. The Liberty (21-12) went ahead 70-69 with 2:18 left on Janel McCarville's jumper, and the lead changed hands three times in the final 22.3 seconds.
Cappie Pondexter led the Liberty with 28 points. Matee Ajavon scored 16 points and Harding had 14 points for the Mystics, who led 61-49 after three quarters.
Williams pleads guilty
A chastened Jayson Williams admitted he was driving drunk when he slammed his SUV into a tree, capping years of legal and personal problems with a guilty plea that adds more time behind bars for the already imprisoned former NBA star.
Williams apologized to his family and said he was working to rebuild his life as he pleaded guilty to driving while intoxicated in the Jan. 5 crash. His one-year sentence - the maximum for the misdemeanor offense - will follow the five-year prison term he's serving in New Jersey for accidentally shooting and killing a limo driver.
"It seems excessive, but it's a small price to pay if it helps to deter drunk driving," Williams, 42, said in a Manhattan court.
Krstic released from custody
Serbia basketball player Nenad Krstic, a center for the Oklahoma City Thunder, was released after being held in police custody overnight following a chaotic brawl during a game with Greece in Athens.
The fight broke out during the last game of the Acropolis tournament, which was stopped with 2:40 left.
