MetLife Stadium?

MetLife is in "very advanced but not complete" negotiations to become the naming rights sponsor for New Meadowlands Stadium, the Sports Business Journal reported yesterday. The stadium opened last year without a sponsor's name -- as the Cowboys' new stadium had the year before -- amid a soft market for naming rights in the wake of the recession that began in 2008. SBJ said a MetLife deal would average $17 million to $18 million.

Moore top female

Former Connecticut star Maya Moore has won the Honda-Broderick Cup for the second straight year as the top female college athlete. Moore, the No. 1 overall draft pick of the Minnesota Lynx, joined swimmer Tracy Caulkins (1982 and '84) as the only athletes to win the award twice.

Calipari extended

The University of Kentucky has given coach John Calipari an extension that makes his contract worth $36.5 million and will keep him coaching the Wildcats through 2019.

British golfers hold the top three spots in the world rankings, the first time that's happened in the 25-year history of the rankings. Rory McIlroy of Northern Ireland rose to third after his triumph at the U.S. Open. Englishmen Luke Donald and Lee Westwood are Nos. 1 and 2.
