COURTSMeggett sentenced to
30 years on rape charge
Former NFL player David Meggett was sentenced to 30 years in prison Wednesday after his conviction in South Carolina on criminal sexual conduct and burglary. Charleston County authorities say Meggett raped a college student at her house in North Charleston in January 2009.
Meggett, 44, who attended high school in North Charleston, was a running back and punt returner for 10 NFL seasons, six with the Giants, three with the Patriots and one with the Jets.
His attorney said he will appeal.

St. John's signs four
St. John's first-year coach Steve Lavin announced the signing of three top 100 prospects and an outstanding junior college player on the first day of the early signing period. Maurice Harkless, a 6-8 swingman from Queens, whom Lavin called "the best player in New York City,'' was the only local name on the list.
Forward Jakarr Sampson of Ohio, shooting guard D'Angelo Harrison from Texas and junior college point guard Nurideen Lindsey signed national letters of intent. St. John's also has an oral commitment from Michigan guard/forward Dwayne Pointer. BASEBALL3 Gold Gloves for Reds
Rockies shortstop Troy Tulowitzki, Rockies outfielder Carlos Gonzalez and Reds pitcher Bronson Arroyo each won his first NL Gold Glove. Reds second baseman Brandon Phillips and third baseman Scott Rolen also won. Cardinals catcher Yadier Molina, outfielders Shane Victorino (Phillies) and Michael Bourn (Astros) and Cardinals first baseman Albert Pujols also were honored.
The Athletics acquired outfielder David DeJesus from the Royals for pitchers Vin Mazzaro and Justin Marks.- AP
