Girl, 11, qualifies for Open
Lucy Li, of Redwood Shores, Calif., has become the youngest player to qualify for the U.S. Women's Open by winning the sectional qualifier at Half Moon Bay in California. The 11-year-old Li shot rounds of 74-68 on the par-72 Old Course on Monday. She will surpass Lexi Thompson as the youngest qualifier in the U.S. Women's Open, which is June 19-22 at Pinehurst No. 2. Thompson was 12 in the 2007 Open. Beverly Klass played the 1967 Open when she was 10. There was no qualifying.

Hornets in, Bobcats out
The Hornets are back in Charlotte. The NBA franchise announced yesterday it has changed its name to the Hornets after 10 years of being known as the Bobcats.
The original Hornets moved to New Orleans with that name but changed it to Pelicans last season.
The league approved the change from Bobcats to Hornets last July. Owner Michael Jordan issued a statement saying it's a "historic day for our franchise, our city and our fans."

Vikes' signings include LIer
The Minnesota Vikings announced that first-round draft pick Teddy Bridgewater and seventh-rounders Shamar Stephen (Brookville) and Brandon Watts have signed their contracts. Stephen is a defensive tackle from Connecticut and Watts is a linebacker from Georgia Tech.-- AP
Pats sign Trinity's Johnson
Derrick Johnson's best attribute while starring as a wide receiver at Holy Trinity High School in 2007 and 2008 was his speed, said longtime coach Tony Mascia. Johnson, from Hempstead and the University of Maine, signed with the Patriots on Sunday as a free agent after trying out for the team last week. Johnson was an all-league wide receiver at Holy Trinity, where he He helped lead the Titans to the CHSFL AA championship in 2008.
