Federer routs Murray

Roger Federer blew away Andy Murray, 6-0, 6-1, to finish the ATP Finals round-robin unbeaten and hand Murray his worst defeat in seven years in front of his home crowd in London yesterday. Federer, who has six titles in the year-end championship, equaled Ivan Lendl's record of 12 semifinal appearances in winning his group ahead of Kei Nishikori, who defeated David Ferrer, 4-6, 6-4, 6-1.

Jimenez, 50, in front with 63

Miguel Angel Jimenez shot a 9-under 63 for a one-stroke lead on the opening day of the Turkish Airlines Open on the Maxx Royal Course in Belek. Jimenez eagled his opening hole and had seven birdies in an 11-hole stretch starting on the fourth. Jimenez, 50, was a shot ahead of Ian Poulter . . . Christina Kim had two eagles in a 7-under 65 to take a one-stroke lead in the Lorena Ochoa Invitational in Mexico City.

Russia, Qatar Cup bids upheld

A long-awaited day of judgment on World Cup hosts Russia and Qatar turned into another day of FIFA disarray. Nearly four years after FIFA chose Russia and Qatar to host the 2018 and 2022 World Cups, respectively, the football body's ethics judge, Joachim Eckert of Germany, exonerated the two countries of any corruption in their winning bids and cleared them to stage the sport's showpiece tournament.

76ers lose to Mavericks by 53

Dirk Nowitzki scored 21 points in 20 minutes as the host Mavericks beat the 76ers, 123-70. The 53-point margin for Dallas surpassed its 50-point win over the Knicks in January 2010. The Mavericks led 38-10 after a quarter and 73-29 at halftime. The 76ers (0-8) shot 9-for-35 in the first half, committing 14 turnovers and 14 fouls. They wound up with 27 turnovers, 24 fouls and 23 baskets. Courtney Lee hit a reverse layup as time expired after catching an inbounds lob from Vince Carter as the host Grizzlies beat the Kings, 111-110, after trailing by 26 in the second quarter. Rudy Gay had 25 points and DeMarcus Cousins added 22 points and 12 rebounds for the Kings, who built a 33-8 lead and still led by 17 with 7:12 left. The Kings' Ben McLemore missed two foul shots with six-tenths of a second left and Zach Randolph rebounded to set up the winning play.

Pau Gasol had 27 points and 11 rebounds, Jimmy Butler added 21 points and Derrick Rose scored 20 before leaving with a sore hamstring as the visiting Bulls beat the Raptors, 100-93.-- AP
