With many Cavaliers fans still angry about LeBron James' decision to leave Cleveland for Miami, Ohio State coach Jim Tressel called for calm yesterday. James might attend tomorrow's Miami-Ohio State game in Columbus. On some message boards and college football sites, fans have said they do not want him at the game. Some even hinted at violence.

NHLPark leaves Islanders

to play in Switzerland

Former Islander Richard Park has signed a three-year deal to play for Swiss team Geneva-Servette. Park, 34, had nine goals and 22 assists in 81 games for the Islanders last season despite being hampered by a foot injury. According to a source, the Islanders offered Park a two-way deal last week.

Beckham from DL

The Los Angeles Galaxy activated midfielder David Beckham, clearing the English superstar to return to MLS competition tomorrow night against Columbus. Beckham tore his left Achilles tendon March 14 while playing on loan with AC Milan.

suspended for gesture

The grandson of Jack Nicklaus, one of the nation's top football recruits, was suspended for two games by Florida officials for making an obscene gesture toward the stands Monday after a game in Ohio. Nick O'Leary is a tight end for Palm Beach Gardens Dwyer. The Palm Beach Post reported that coach Jack Daniels said he would forfeit the two games rather than play without O'Leary.
