Djokovic to meet Nadal for Italian title

Top-ranked Novak Djokovic edged Roger Federer Saturday to set up another meeting with rival Rafael Nadal in the Italian Open final in Rome. Djokovic, the defending champion, beat Federer, 6-2, 7-6 (4). Five-time winner Nadal eliminated fellow Spaniard David Ferrer, 7-6 (6), 6-0, in the other semifinal.

Maria Sharapova defeated rising German player Angelique Kerber, 6-3, 6-4, and will defend her title against French Open champion Li Na. The Chinese player advanced after Serena Williams withdrew shortly before their semifinal with a lower back injury.

Dane Richards scored in the 67th minute with New York playing a man short, and the Red Bulls beat the host Montreal Impact, 2-1, Saturday night to extend their winning streak to five games. Richards pounced on a rebound in close and put the ball under the crossbar. Kenny Cooper scored his 10th goal to draw the Red Bulls (8-3-1) even as both teams converted penalty kicks in the first half. The striker drove a shot into the top right corner in the 37th minute. Bernardo Corradi scored 22 minutes in for Montreal (3-6-3).

New York Fury wins

The New York Fury got a goal from Brittany Taylor on an assist from Merritt Mathias in the 54th minute and defeated the Western New York Flash, 1-0, at Sahlen's Stadium in Rochester. The Fury next host the Boston Breakers at Hofstra at 7 p.m.

UFC's Jones arrested on DWI charge

Jon Jones, the UFC light heavyweight champion, was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated early Saturday morning in upstate New York after his Bentley was involved in a one-car accident, the Binghamton Police Department confirmed to Newsday. Jones, 24, crashed into a pole at an intersection, Sgt. Chris Lason said. Jones was released to his family on bond. He is due to return to a Binghamton court for arraignment at a later date.
