Injured Hixon placed on waivers

Giants wide receiver and kick returner Domenik Hixon, who recently tore a knee ligament during a minicamp workout at New Meadowlands Stadium, was placed on waivers Thursday for the purpose of putting him on injured reserve. Hixon has to clear waivers first to go on IR and open up a roster spot. Hixon underwent knee surgery about two weeks ago and is out for the season. He was the Giants' primary punt and kickoff return man last season after failing to hold on to a starting wideout position.

NBACavs' West pleads to gun charges

Cavaliers guard Delonte West pleaded guilty yesterday to weapons charges in Maryland. Prince George's County Circuit Court Judge Graydon McKee sentenced West to 8 months of electronic monitoring, 2 years of unsupervised probation, 40 hours of community service and psychological counseling. West told Judge McKee he was ashamed. He said he has been "put on a pedestal" because he can "dribble a basketball," and worries about letting down youth.

Warriors sold for $450 million

Warriors owner Chris Cohan reached an agreement to sell the franchise for a record $450 million to Celtics minority partner Joe Lacob and Mandalay Entertainment CEO Peter Guber.

$2 million sought from Vick

The trustee in Michael Vick's bankruptcy case is seeking repayment of at least $2 million that Vick doled out to friends and family members before he was sent to prison. A complaint filed in U.S. Bankruptcy Court says Vick knew his NFL career was in jeopardy and that he would be facing huge legal bills.

MLS plans to hold on to Donovan

MLS commissioner Don Garber said the league has no intention of accepting transfer offers for Los Angeles Galaxy midfielder Landon Donovan. Garber called Donovan a "real soccer hero" and says the league can't do without him.
