TOUR DE FRANCE

Hagen takes sixth stage

Edvald Boasson Hagen of Norway won a rain-splattered sixth stage of the Tour de France yesterday, while Thor Hushovd retained the leader's yellow jersey. The pack battled slippery roads and brisk winds over the hilly 140-mile ride across northwestern France into Normandy that ended at Lisieux. Matt Goss of Australia was second and overall race leader Thor Hushovd was third, giving Norway the distinction of having the stage winner and yellow jersey holder on the same day.

Moving fairly close to the front meant relative safety for favorites Alberto Contador, Andy Schleck and Cadel Evans. They all were part of the first 50 of the 197 riders who completed the stage.
